Last month I was introduced to a group as a 35-year-old for the 49th time who is obsessed and unusually enthusiastic about his subject. It is appropriate that I mention I was wearing my bright orange WAFOWASL shirt and my bright red running shoes and speaking to a group of professionals dressed in business attire.
Bob Moore with Mr. Peanut at the Brookshire’s Fresh 5KI am a freak. FREAK – noun: a person who is obsessed with or unusually enthusiastic about a specified interest.
I am not normal. Nor-mal – adjective: conforming to the standard or the common type: usual.
Normal folks do not get up between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., walk briskly for about 48 minutes, eat shredded wheat, topped with six or more fresh and fresh frozen fruits and nuts with a cup of almond silk ,and be ready to start the day by 8:30 a.m. That’s the daily routine since June 12, 2006. In addition, I am 104 pounds lighter than my top lifetime weight and dropped the blood pressure from a high of 204/105 to between 95/56 to 136/64. Yes, there are those who call me a freak, and some think I am crazy. And that is a good thing.
We are losing the battle with sugar diabetes and obesity. Over 70 percent of our population is overweight and 30 percent is obese and worse.
Two fuels are needed to keep alive. Water and food. Our body must perform two functions, walk (motion), and sleep… WAFOWASL
I enjoy studying the habits great athletes, Michael Jordan , Michael Phelps and Jack Nicklaus are favorites. There are some critics that have called them worse than freaks during their prime. They are not normal, that is for sure.
They all drink lots of water, and not as many sugar drinks as most normal people. They consume a bunch of protein and carbs that come from fruits, veggies, and nuts. They all take Brisk Walking to a new level. They get a bunch of good sleep… WAFOWASL.
The best of the best have a slight edge over all the rest. Each one does a very simple routine thing that every other competitor in their sport does, except they do it with total CONSISTENCY.
Jack Nicklaus, in lining up and preparing to putt, he spends the same time, within seconds on every one of them, from start to finish. How many times have you seen top golfers let pressure get to them? What is the difference between Jack and normal golfers? Jack does this simple thing all the time with total consistency.
Michael Jordan brags that he has made more mistakes playing basketball than any other player. This billionaire did what all basketball players must do. They practice shooting, passing, and foul shooting a basketball. What is the difference? Michael practiced doing these simple things always with total consistency.
Swimmers go through a warmup routine and then adjust their pace and stroke during the race especially during the turns. All the competitors must do the same thing. Why does Michael excel? The answer is simple. He is consistent.
What does it take to be healthy?
The answer is, WAFOWASL, simply be consistent.
WAFOWASL = Water, Food, Walk, Sleep
